University of Nebraska at Omaha Create Job Analysis for Nebraska Department of Corrections

The Nebraska Department of Corrections has contracted with students and a faculty from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Industrial/Organizational Psychology Program to create a job analysis for three entry level positions: Corporal, Corrections Officers and Case worker. The purpose of the job analysis is to identify the behaviors required for effective job performance (tasks) and the skills, abilities, knowledge and tools required. The job analysis project was facilitated through the use of SkillObject Designer, a software package developed by SkillsNET, to capture this information. The project included the generation of the information required by job incumbents in these three positions. Over 50 incumbents provided information about job requirements in facilitated sessions. The information then was combined and edited to create a final list of job tasks, which were then reviewed by supervisors and job incumbents. Currently, we are surveying all job incumbents to obtain ratings on task importance and criticality. Information from these surveys will provide a guideline for the evaluation of the current selection system.
